Have You Tried Something New Lately?

(published on website April, 2012)...
Our workshop is this weekend and I am always excited at the possibilities. When our students arrive there is an anticipation of what is to come. You can see the questions on their faces. Will I be able to make a garment? How will that look? Will I make a fool of myself?

By the end of the day the looks turn to relief and joyousness. “I did it!” and most times, they did it really well. It’s like life isn’t it? Sometimes we do it really well and sometimes fairly average. It doesn’t matter how you do it, as long as you do.

I was thinking of some sayings I’ve heard or read over the years – “Better to have tried and failed, than to never have tried at all”, “You can’t get to the other side unless you leave the shore” and so on.
Charles T. Tart is known for his
more than 50 years of research
on the nature of consciousness,
altered states of consciousness
and parapsychology

These sayings are food for thought. I think most people live their daily lives in some sort of unconscious state, like being under hypnosis, aware but not really in the present.

Charles T. Tart said it very aptly, “Most people spend their lives in Life’s waiting room”. I’ll leave you to ponder that. Talk to you next week.

Workshop, Garments and Metaphors

(published on website April, 2012)...
Gosh, a week has already gone and we can say our farewell for this year to Easter. A quiet one for me and I hope a happy and safe one for all.

In a previous blog I talked about how busy we were getting ready for the Launch of Urban Rags on the 4th of May and also our upcoming workshop on the 21st of this month. I’m always excited about our workshops as we only take a small amount of people, this allows me to be able to work with each person personally. Something I love doing.

Watching people find their creative spirit is a wonderful thing. They realise that they can create a garment from something that started out as ordinary, and turn that into something extraordinary. Here is some food for thought.

What if this was only the beginning of changing something, what if you start out with a garment and this becomes a metaphor for your life? Then the change that we seek may not be that awful thing that holds us back…FEAR…you know False Evidence Appearing Real. As I said Food for Thought… Talk to you next week.

Launch is Approaching

(published on website April, 2012)...
Judythe
Easter is upon us, and I have no idea where the year has gone so far. I am probably like most people trying to come to terms with this galloping of time.

We at Urban Rags are hard at work getting ready for our Launch which is on the 4th of May. We’re very excited – not only with showing our unique one-off garments, but with demonstrating what can be achieved when we take gently used clothing and turn the ordinary into the extraordinary.

Imagine if you can, taking your own clothing that has been hiding in your closet for goodness knows how long, and being able to turn it into wearable art. You can you know. You are more creative than you realise.

We all have a hidden talent. We are, as Urban Rags clothing is, “Absolutely Unique and One Of a Kind”. Our workshops are a testament to this. People come and spend a day with us, and leave with a sense of achievement.

I would like to leave you with this one thought –-- “You are engineered for success and endowed with the seeds of greatness.”
